The main file, NEWUSER2.PEX will be executed just after the new user has answered the new user questions. I first saw this idea in Renegade, before I saw the light and began running ProBoard. I thought it was a good idea for several reasons. It gives new, unexperienced users their first experience at entering a message. Some users never bother with messages simply because they either don't know what to do, or a little frightened to try it out. It also gives you the opportunity to have a little contact with all of your users, rather than just the small number that bother to write a message. The NEWUSER2.INI file --------------------- The NEWUSER2.INI file contains a single line with parameters for the message that the new user will write. ie.. MessageParams = 100 /S=Newuser /T=Sysop ³ ³ ³ ÚÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÙ ³ ÀÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ¿ The message are number The subject line that the message will for the message The 'TO:' field be posted in (from PBCONFIG). of the message. As you may have guessed, these parameters are identical to those for the 'Write a Message' menu command number 27. Don't forget, if either the /S or /T parameters are more than one word, they should be in quote marks. ie.. MessageParams = 100 /S="New User" /T="Joe Sysop" MessageParams is the variable used internally by NUMSG and should not be altered under any circumstances. Installation ------------- Installation is fairly simple. The files NEWUSER2.PEX and NEWUSER2.INI must reside in your \PROBOARD\PEX directory. NEWUSER2.PEX will read your system config to find out where the ProBoard system directory is. As long as the two NEWUSER2 files are in a directory called PEX below your system directory, there shouldn't be a problem. ie.. C:\PROBOARD\PEX\NEWUSER2.PEX C:\PROBOARD\PEX\NEWUSER2.INI The files USERMSG.ASC and USERMSG.ANS are the files which display the message informing the user that they will be required to enter a message to the sysop. These files must reside in a directory called TXTFILES under your proboard directory ie.. C:\PROBOARD\TXTFILES\USERMSG.ANS You can modify these files as much as you like. NEWUSER2.PEX simply looks for a file called USERMSG.* NUMSG can be tested by logging on locally as a new user.
